It's been good, but I'm leaving.

Peace out.

Hey Sep. 8th, 2006 @ 11:41 pm
Looks like a nice community you've got going here.

I'm a high school senior, and aspiring jazz musician, hoping to get into some place like Oberlin or Eastmond to do a double major. Naturally, I listen to a lot of jazz - Mingus is probably my favorite, although now I have a growing interest in Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and bop - but I find there isn't much I won't listen too. My tastes range from ska to orchestral music to the occasional Japanese group.

Hope nobody minds if I hang around here.

Hello Aug. 27th, 2005 @ 02:32 pm
I just joined, so I'm going to introduse myself.

My name is Morgan.
I'm thirteen. If you judge me by age, I will eat you alive.
I will listen to any kind of music, except country. I generally don't like modern rap, but old school hip-hop rocked. However, the genre of music I enjoy the most is Punk. And ska, I suppose, but I always considered that a subgenre of punk.
My favrotie bands are- Social Distortion, Rage Against The Machine, The OC Supertones, Crass, The Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, The Bravery, The Cure, The Transplants, Tristania, Run DMC, DJ Q-Bert, Oi Polloi, Pearl Jam, Mushroomhead, Gorillaz, U2, and Seether

I'm very opinionated.

I'm very easy to get along with, so long as you have some form of intelligence.

Yep, that's it.

Intro: Jul. 8th, 2005 @ 11:52 am
Hola. I'm Will. I am anatomically and socially male. I'm 18. I live in Richmond, Kentucky, and I'm going to school at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island in the fall.

I was never really into music (with the exception of Cowboy Bebop soundtrack by the Seatbelts--which is rockin'!) until January when I decided that I like this punkrock stuff and used a gift certificate to purchase London Calling, Sandinista!, and Rock Against Bush Vol. 2. My favorite bands are The (International) Noise Conspiracy, the Mescaleros, the Soviettes, Desaparecidos, Skalariak, the Weakerthans, the Selecter, Against Me!, Belle & Sebastian, and really everything. I just got The Ugly Organ by Cursive yesterday and that's pretty rockin' if it's your thing.

Who wants to be livejournal friends? ♥

So, if you all recall that entry I posted about the bookmark art contest I entered.
Well, I won. So it made me happy. And I thought I'd share since the theme was musical genre's.
I don't know if I said what I was doing when I posted about it before, but I did second wave ska.

I'll try to get a picture and post it so you all can see if you'd like.

Hey, Evan! I happened to stumble upon this community thinking that it's too good to be true. Then I discover that you're the creator and mod, and find that it really is too good to be true. I've joined anyway and decided to throw a nomination out there.

I nominate The Dead Kennedys to be on the interests list of this community. Any takers?
» (No Subject)
So based on the recommendation of someone in this community, I picked up an .O.A.R. cd... (Wanderer)...

and it fuckin rocks! Thanks whoever!
» (No Subject)
i was wondering do you have to post an app or anything.has anybody in here ever heard about a band called arma angelus? cause thier an awesome band but not alot of people has heard of them.
» Nomination.
Ok. I feel weird cause I've done the last few posts.... but o well.

I nominate Van Morrison, Jimmy Buffet, and Frou Frou.

And just curious. What is everyone's favorite website? Just in general.
Personally, I like dictionary.com. Yeah, cause I'm a dork like that.
I just have a fetish for words and knowing what they mean.
» Bookmark.
Ok. I entered an art contest at school.
The idea is that students (i.e. me and others) design a bookmark for the school library to use.
Whoever wins gets 50$ for a prize, and their bookmark is then given out to students on campus.

The theme is musical genres. We have to depict one genre in our design.
I picked ska. So, I was wondering if any of you bright lightbulbs had any good ideas for me.
I'd like to base it off of Two-tone mainly.
And I know it's cliche but I have a checkered boarder for part of my design already.
Thanks in advance.
» Mmm... swing dancing.
I had my second swing dancing lesson tonight.
My mum got the lessons for me for my birthday. We're taking them together.

I'm getting decently good. We've learned about 6 steps. Mostly basic ones.

I just thought I'd tell you all about that.
» Yo
So my compy was down since Friday, so I haven't had a chance to check in, and I didn't get the background done like I wanted, but I promise that will be done by Sunday! The new questionaire will be added too! Promote guys!

what in your opinion was the best trumpet player in jazz history?
» I have a proposition!

Skaparker gave me an idea. Well actually it was her idea. And I kinda followed up on it.
We should make a really really ridiculous application thing.
Except it doesnt really count. It'll just be something to fill out so we can get to know new members.

Iunno. I think it's a neat idea.
It won't be a thing where the person has to get voted in.
We'll just use it to get to know them, like I said before.

The End.

(and not that this has to do with anything, but I've had an insane amount of tea and sugar today so therefore I am bouncing off the walls like you wouldn't believe.)

Anyone have any obscure bands they know that are good? I feel like listening to something new.

» new kid
Name/Age/Sex/Location: Mike, 15, Male, Philadelphia

I wont write bands cause it will take too long, so record companies and genres will do:

2 tone records, Trojan Records, Hell-Cat Records, Megalith Records, Studio One, Heartbeat Records, Motown Records, etc.

Traditional Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae, Skinhead Reggae, Rock, Rockabilly, Punk, European Folk, American Jamaican and Caribbean Jazz, Salsa Soca Calypso and other caribbean music, Big Band & Swing, Klezmer (im an eastern european jew) Second wave, Third wave, CeltPunk, RNB, Soul, Hiphop, and the list goes on..

I always like to find new music. I find some online, and surprisingly at the local library, i just picked up two klezmer cd's and a cd by the caribbean jazz project a couple days ago.

Man I don't know if I'm joining just because I like most of the musical genres this place is about, or the horrible misspelling of Dizzy's last name in the interests. It's Gillespie man, GILLESPIE. I really shouldn't care about that, but I think that spelling his name correctly might be a little respectful. Dude was a great man.
Anyways, my name is Chris Kepley I play trumpet, listen to jazz, reggae, ska, rap, metal, rock, some country, just about anything, except pop. Also, I don't quite enjoy the combination of ska and punk. I rather despise it actually, with some exceptions (MU330). As for the combination of jazz and rap, that shit is tight as hell. Just over the weekend at a highschool jazz festival thing, my friend's combo played a cover of the Roots song Quills. Unfortunately their interpretation of it wasn't all too good, but hey, they tried.
Sorry for the outburst at the beginning of my post.
